    Whither the garden?

Living in Australian suburbia has traditionally meant livining in house with a garden.Smile
The new outer suburban developments are located on the fringes of urban development, where the land is cheap but the blocks are comparatively small. There few gardens to be seen. The front "yard"comes for anything but the smalest backyard.
The houses have no eves so they can be placed closer together and most require air-conditioners to counter the intensity of the western sun which comes unfiltered by trees or absobed by greenery.Eye-rolling

These suburban developments represent a dramatic change in the experience of subrban living.Without a garden, there is no space for children to play outside and they must be taken, usually driven,to other locations for their outdoor recreation
there is hardly space for barbecue.Thinking

The severe 10 year drought which has ravaged much of south -eastern Australia has taken a different kind of toll on the garden of that region. Water restictions have forced gardens to make choices about which plants they will try to save.
Some people are installing rainwater tanks in to have their own water supply and thus maintain their own vision for their garden.Wink

I had received my water bill yesterday it shows FIRST TIME 130 Litres used and same time last year 172.Quarterly account)This time "hardly used water" because we did had a showerly weather for a month.
I needs to carfully replants for scorching weather to come?Thinking

This is an importants meassage to my dear friends: I REGRET for invited my friends in here today Temper 19c-30c Celsios.
what are we going to do with Miss Catts Sis? awhile we are going to the beach? she has a lot of fur then she need to be stayed indoors otherwise she will be get sunburnt? Thinking though probability they will be not far away from here...Baring teeth

If there were no more gardens, what is the advantage living in Australia? I won't get used to it.
    You have a nice day.

Without gardens, the developments then need common park areas. Cities should make themselves liveable by ensuring they have adequate greenery to fight pollution and give a good environment for children to grow up.

HI Michiko, This is my first visit to your space, and I'm glad I came along! I've been blogging for quite some time now, but lately have had no great brainwaves, plus, my pre-occupation with Facebook is killiing all the creativity in me!! I think I'll have to go in for re-hab, as far as FB is concerned.
You seem to be a wonderful person. I'll be dropping in now and then, so don't think I'm completely gone!
    Enjoyed your article and photos.
    Love, Ruma.

    Hey Michiko!
I would love to be there. I always said I would need 6 months to see as much as I can. Because if I would visit Australia I would like to travel all continent. And I know distances are huge. So, how much time would I need? A lifetime probably. ;-)
I like your ground floor houses too. They are typical no? ... because of tornados?
But just can't imagine Santa Claus in his dress at 30°C and possibly on the beach and without snow. ;-)

You live in one country I've never been too that I'd love to see too. You know it was always my dream to visit aftre a trip to India but that never happened. My state has everything from temperatures well over one hundred degrees to well below 70 degrees below zero F of course not C. I've seen it rainy, I've seen it snow, I've seen it dry for months...I guess you could say it's pretty well rounded weather here LOL! Anyway, bills aren't kind when there's extremes in temperature...it's been rather cool and mild this year so it's not as bad a some years. Best of luck finding the best garden solution my friend!
